Charities can receive donations directly via SMS (Canada and USA)
The purpose of a charity is to advocate for a social cause, which can vary widely. Some focus on environmental protection, while others support cancer research or advocate for equality. These organizations operate in diverse fields such as health, technology, the arts, education, the environment, and even gastronomy. Typically, they fund their projects through donations, often through fundraising campaigns. Today, organizations based in Canada and the USA have the ability to receive donations directly via SMS. Allow us to provide you with more information on this development!
Mobile Giving Foundation Canada
The Mobile Giving Foundation Canada is a consortium led by several of the country’s mobile operators. These include TELUS, Eastlink, Koodo Mobile, Fido and Virgin Mobile. Through this consortium, organizations will be able to receive donations via text message. It uses technology developed by ICF Next and Bandsintown. The principle is simple.
1. Registration
An organization wishing to use the services of the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada must first register. This is done by filling out a membership application form. Simply send an email to [email protected] to obtain the form. At this stage, the charity will also select an application service provider.
There are several options. Once everything has been done, all that remains is to send the application. At this point, a one-time fee of $350 is charged. The consortium will then review your file. This can take up to 5 days. Please note that to be eligible for this service, you must meet a number of standards.
2. Agreement
If the application is approved, the entities will proceed with the agreements. These concern in particular the pricing of the campaign. Costs are generally defined according to 2 elements:
- The campaign fees charged by Mobile Giving Foundation Canada to the application service providers;
- The services required and the number of campaigns.
However, you are not required to use an application service provider. In this case, pricing will be based on the number of campaigns.
3. The activation process
Once the contracts have been signed, the organization can request the activation of its campaign. The request must be sent no later than Wednesday at 5p.m. (Eastern time). The campaign will be activated the following Tuesday. This is because, it’s important to ensure that it’s working properly before activating it. In this way, the campaign is tested before it is launched.
4. The Campaign
Once the campaign has been activated, users can send donations. All they have to do is text the keywords and sub-keywords to a short code. Then follow the instructions to set parameters such as the amount. They can send $5, $10, $20 or $25.
5. Payment
Each month, Mobile Giving Foundation Canada disburses all funds raised to registered organizations.
Conclusion
Mobile Giving Foundation Canada makes it easy for donors to support the causes they care about. At Cocoapp, we admire this kind of initiative.
